Who hasn’t said something inappropriate in a time of stress? Probably just me. Sometimes I say inappropriate things during non-stressful times as well. It just pops out.

Speaking of popping out, have you been watching Adventure Time? My daughter saw this last summer during our trip to Georgia and has been hooked since. It’s a weird show and it took a few episodes to grow on me, but I must admit that I like it.

I was listening to the Comic Geek Speak podcast 1186 which has an interview with Ryan North who is writing the Adventure Time comic @ Kaboom! (Boom! Studios’ all ages line). It sounds great and Ryan was pretty funny. Ryan also does Dinosaur Comics webcomic which is always funny.

Definitely worth your time to check out the cartoon on Cartoon Network and pick up the Adventure Time comic book. Great stuff. And if you don’t “get it” at first, give it time. Adventure Time is like a good poo. At first it might hurt but you’ll be happy that you stuck through to the end.

As any parent knows, sometimes you say things that you don’t mean or it just comes out wrong.  That’s hard to explain to a toddler.  And occasionally you’ll say things that are true but you didn’t want your child to know.  It’s difficult to control the potty mouth after working 10 hours or listening to screaming kids for just one.  I have no answers to that problem but maybe just acknowledging that we’re not perfect is a start.  I wake my child up every morning with my “I’m not as perfect as you but I try.” mantra.

I probably deserve a coffee mug like this one.

So busy lately.  I am going to be doing a match-up for Webcomic Beacon with artist Lou Graziani.  Lou creates the webcomic www.Cy-Boar.com.  I’ve got a great idea, I think.  I’ll post when we get it done.

The kid and I are really enjoying our new Trek bicycles that Santa brought.  Last weekend I went out searching for a nearby trail to see if it was something that we could do together.  I wasn’t sure where the trail was so I went near the area I thought the trail should be and then followed another rider that looked like they knew where they were going.

Sure enough we got on a small paved trail behind a school.  It was somewhat paved and wide trail along a little creek.  I rode it up along the creek for about 1/2 a mile until I suddenly hit a street and the trail ends.  That was very short which was strange since I had heard this trail was miles long, maybe I went the wrong way?  So I turned around.  Again it ended at a street about 1/2 mile down from where I started.  Pretty depressing.

I went home and pulled up a GPS app on the Kindle Fire to see if there were other trails nearby that weren’t as depressing.  I saw the listing for the the trail I was on and looked it up.  Only I wasn’t on the trail.  According to the GPS the trail I was looking for was a mile north, I had followed the kid into a sewer!

I think I need a GPS for my bike.

Do you have any good New Year’s resolutions this year? Mine involve getting into shape, finishing some writing projects, and work on the webcomics more. I’ve started out okay with hitting the gym more and eating better in 2012.

Santa brought us some bikes, so the child and I have been riding. I didn’t realize how many muscles of mine had atrophied. I was in pain when I got off the bike. Southern California isn’t always friendly to cyclists so I have to be careful on the roads as I get my wheel legs back.

On the plus side, I’ve started a new project connected to Daddy’s Girls. Can’t really talk about it yet, but it’s looking promising. Exciting really. My other writing work is also moving forward, one word at a time.

Calvin and Hobbes are dead. Sad. Sad. Sad. Sad. Sad.

Recently we got a new addition to our home. A HOUSE!

Slowly for the last couple years we’ve picked up a couple Calico Critter animals, but this winter we finally made the plunge. It seemed to make sense because we’re always spending time at the Calico Critter’s table at the toy store. All of the animal families are fun, but this new house was a big hit. The cool thing is that it’s got working lights.

They are pretty fun and don’t take up as much real estate as the Barbies. I grew up with Star Wars so I can relate sort of to the appeal. And as a dad I appreciate the small size & ease of clean-up.

Who hasn’t played a trick on their pet once in a while? April’s is just a bit more elaborate than most. Hopefully it all goes well and she doesn’t get marked before springing her trap.

Thanks to all the new readers. I am never sure if it’s a Twitter, Facebook, or forum post that got you to stop by but I do appreciate the visit. Please tell your friends, every Tuesday and Thursday updates. Sometimes more if I can find the time. Always good for a chuckle or a head scratching.

Over New Year’s Day we played some new games that Santa brought.

Hedbanz is a really, really fun party game. It had everyone laughing. It took a little while to get a system of questions to help narrow the answers down so that we could get it right in the time allotted. Reading reviews from others I think that it might make sense doubling the time and flipping the timer twice. A great game.

The second game we played was Blurt! The Uproarious Word Race Game!

We didn’t know it beforehand, but BLURT! is a great companion to Hedbanz. The object of BLURT! is to yell out the word that fits the definition the opposing player yells out. The interesting twist with BLURT! is that you actually roll the dice for your opponent so you’re trying for a low score. It also is fun and funny, though not quite as laugh-out-loud as Hedbanz. The two games made a great family New Year’s Day.

Sorry…but I’ve had to pull an oldie from my vaults today. This is a Blue Jude comic from 2009. I thought I’d have more time to finish a bunch of comics this week, but the exact opposite has been true. The past two weeks have left me with less time. Next week I’m back to the regular routine so hopefully I’ll be back to normal. For next year you can look forward to more craziness at the Bloom home. Jack’s job at the city is still up-in-the-air, April’s new friend Jude (Blue Jude actually) shows her that she’s not the only one with a crazy family, and Dante and Magic team-up to battle the chicken. Lots happening in 2012 so stick around.
